Solar Summer!

November 7, 2012

Despite a somewhat dismal performance from the British weather, South Yorkshire Renewable Energy have installed a good number of domestic systems over the last three months including this attractive array pictured right, situated in Sheffield.

Solar customers have realised that although the feed-in tariff has been reduced, the price of solar systems has also declined dramatically; in some cases, prices are over £3000 less than they were this time last year for a 4 kilowatt peak system. Typically, payback on an investment of this kind is about 7 years for a well situated system of this size.

Although the solar market has slowed since its inception in the United Kingdom, with energy bills rising it seems that the solar market is here to stay. A number of companies are researching battery technology which will make solar PV systems more attractive to consumers; once energy can be stored in a battery and used at night, owners of solar PV systems will be able to maximise the benefits their systems bring.
