UK Energy Roadmap Upate

January 9, 2013

Solar_PowerThe UK is comitted to delivering 15% of its energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020. The government has just updated its Renewable Energy Roadmap in order to set out how this aim will be achieved.

Solar photovoltaics has now been included along side wind energy and biomass as one of the key technologies which can help the UK meet this target.

The cost of solar photovoltaics installations fell by 50% between summer 2011 and March 2012, which means that large-scale solar electricity is increasingly viable as a low cost solution which can provide a significant portion of the UK’s energy.

Market instruments such as feed-in tariffs exist for many technologies to encourage their depolyment and make them an attractive investment option for both domestic and commercial properties.

With bills rising due to the volatility of the fossil fuel market as well as the added costs of implementing green measures, many businesses are turning to renewables to insulate themselves from future price hikes.
